With the last minute victory over Newcastle this evening, Arsenal move to within one point of the Tiny Totts. A few weeks back, this looked extremely unlikely, with the Spuds favourites to beat Arsenal at the Emirates, which would have opened a 13-point gap. Since Arsène Wenger took over as manager, Arsenal have finished above their local rivals every season. The one time it was looking likely that the Totts might finish above us, that lead has all but vanished over 3 games.
Turning a 2-0 deficit in the local derby into a 5-2 victory seems to have given Arsenal the confidence they seemed to be lacking. In the post-Fabregas era, we seem a little less tippy-tappy, back to the directness of the Henry-Pires-Ljungberg attack, and a new toughness is emerging. Also a new togetherness, I think that RvP, as well as his phenomenal goalscoring, is the first real leader since Vieira.
I think we’ve got something here. I hope that Le Boss can keep the team together and add a few in the summer.
